Royal Palace at the Dam Square Amsterdam by Flickr user thecomicproject

Amsterdam‘s Royal Palace is one of the three palaces at the disposal of Queen Beatrix. Located on Dam Square, the palace was originally built as a city hall before becoming a royal residence. Construction began in 1648, at the height of the Dutch Golden Age and took a mere 17 years to be completed. Today it is open to visits from the public, and it is also used for official royal functions.
